Reference Sites

In 2008 we traveled to Nullagine and Marble Bar where we spent a few weeks initially before returning to do a consolidation and follow up in November. We had a great time and felt like we became part of the community.

In 2009 we again visited Marble Bar and Geraldton.

In 2010 we visited some schools in the south-west.

We worked with teachers, Teacher Assistants and AEO's.

Some of the typical comments from teachers were:
“You've motivated me to try new things.”
“Glad to have someone here who can help us solve all those little problems with the computers.”
“Thanks, you've given me ideas which fit with what I am doing so I've already been able to try them in class.”

Today I worked at North Balga Primary School where they were migrating their existing standalone network to the North Balga LWICT network.

After our discussion yesterday the PEAC Coordinator, Kerry, had spoken to the deputy at the school who had ensured that all ports that would be needed were patched in. I spoke to Grant, the deputy and he gave Kerry full "Privileged User" rights on the network.

After some cable rearrangement I tried "RIS"ing a computer. It worked beautifully however by the time it finsihed and others were in process I discovered it did not contain Radia or the DET software. A call to helpdesk left me none the wiser and with no hope of anyone getting back to me for a day or 2 I checked a student login. This gave me the message that the computer was unassigned.

Logging back into the computer as the "Privileged User" I went through the process of assigning the computer and it then opened Radia and began to set up the computer. What a win! I worked through this process with the other 7 computers and all went smoothly.

While this process was occurring I took the opportunity to familiarise the PEAC Teacher at the Centre with the new SOE and available software including PhotoStory3 which had been installed by Radia. We discussed some strategies for directing students with computer searches.

By the time the Kerry arrived back the computers were all set up and I'd checked they all logged in and the Internet was working. I ran through the new SOE with her and we discussed strategies for saving students' work and explored some utilities available in the Portal including the DAM tool in case a student is locked out.

All in all I was pretty pleased with myself at the end of the day as I know that things don't always go as smoothly as this!
